The London Umbraco Meetup

The London Umbraco Meetup, first founded by Cogworks Founder Adam White Hart in London over a couple of beers, is a friendly monthly meet that brings together anyone interested in the open-source .NET CMS Umbraco, from newcomers to experienced developers and business leaders.

This Thursday, in London, the London Umbraco Meetup will feature a Q&A session with a few influential people using Umbraco to create innovative solutions for various clients.

The same relaxed style applies to this event; we're talking about food and drinks, this time kindly provided by the team at Moriyama.

It's not too late to reserve your spot.

I borrowed a few moments of the panel's time to learn more about this week's event speakers:

Event Host and Moderator, Lotte Pitcher

Lotte Pitcher organises the Umbraco London Meetup and is a part-time Developer Advocate at Umbraco HQ

Lotte: "At Umbraco London, we often have developer-focused content, and we're super excited to hear about and discuss the business of working with Umbraco!"

Jenny Bradshaw

Jenny Bradshaw is an experienced leader and consultant with 20 years of experience across various disciplines, passionate about digital technology and the opportunities this ever-changing landscape presents for brands and businesses to grow and connect more effectively with their customers.

Jenny Bradshaw (1)

Jenny: I've worked with Umbraco as a technology preference for 10 years across two different Platinum Partners. Umbraco's a great fit for enterprise businesses because of its ease of use, scalability, responsiveness and how easy it is to integrate other data sources and services.

Jess Redman: Why should technical and non-technical teams be enthusiastic and engaged in contributing to the Umbraco ecosystem?

Jenny: Umbraco's strength lies in community, and that's a big part of how we sell it to customers - the community-driven development directed by HQ is a powerful combination.

Engagement with the Community is fairly new to me, having joined Moriyama earlier this year: it's refreshing to see how much diversity there is within the community, and as a business leader (and very much non-technical!), there's a real strength in technical and non-technical voices being involved.

This helps ensure Umbraco continues to focus on the "why?". Not just what can we build, or what new tools can we create, but what problems are we solving for developers, for businesses and their customers, and what difference does it make to them.

Jenny: I’m Jen, and I’m the CEO of Yoyo Design. We are a B Corp certified brand and digital agency, committed to helping good brands do great things. We design and develop brands and digital products end-to-end, and have worked with Umbraco for more than a decade. Helping to inform prospective clients about the digital tools available to them is a big part of my role, and in being an Umbraco Silver partner, we’re always proud to promote it as our CMS of choice.

Jess Redman: What should business owners, developers, and clients should know about Umbraco's current focus on sustainability

Jenny: Best practice and sustainable practice go hand-in-hand. Code that's fast and efficient not only improves user experience and website performance but also reduces energy consumption and pressure on servers.

Umbraco advocates for eco-conscious development, and that's something we're very much aligned with. From optimising the architecture of a page, to getting rid of unnecessary plugins, there are so many small changes that can be implemented to make a big difference.

Being the only submission for the Umbraco Award for "Best Green Solution" showed us that there is so much room for conversations about sustainability. As a community, we can come together to ensure that sustainability in development should always be a forethought.

Aaron Green

From Precision Resource Group, Aaron Green will discuss "How to Win the Hiring Process," examining what makes a great hiring and interview process. As a specialist recruiter, Aaron will help give you the edge to find the best talent by diving into the social psychology of hiring.

Join Thursday's Q&A

The friendly panel will be in Bermondsey, London, on September 19th from 18:30

If you're a business owner, marketer, developer, designer, or just interested in Umbraco, this Meetup style is a great place to start!

Attend this month's meetup.
