Diagnosing the Problem, Delivering the Solution

Our relationship with Prostate Cancer UKbegan in 2017 when they approached us for help with recurring website performance issues. The site was slow and ill-equipped to handle traffic surges during campaigns. Through an initial Umbraco Health Check, we identified a range of inefficiencies, from bloated code to cumbersome functionalities, that were hindering the site’s performance.

Instead of proposing a full rebuild at that point, we recommended targeted, intelligent optimisations. This improved performance and user experience without the need for an immediate, large-scale overhaul.

Engaging Positivity: A Revamped Donation Experience

Our first major project for Prostate Cancer UK came in 2018 when we tackled their donation page. The existing page felt disconnected and transactional, so we flipped the narrative. Instead of focusing on what happens if people don’t donate, we highlighted the positive impact donations make.

By leveraging real-life stories and designing a more intuitive flow, we saw a 29% increase in online donations within the first eight weeks. This success established the groundwork for deeper collaborations in the years ahead.

Full Website Rebuild (2019): Built to Thrive

By 2019, it was time for a complete overhaul. Prostate Cancer UK's site needed to be resilient, fast, and ready for major national campaigns. We migrated the site from Umbraco 7 to Umbraco 8, improving both back-end stability and front-end performance. The rebuild focused on scalability, enabling the site to handle over 250,000 users per day, compared to just 100 users before performance issues would crash the system.

With a cleaner, more efficient codebase, and optimisations across the site, Prostate Cancer UK was now equipped to meet the demands of their campaigns, including celebrity partnerships and nationwide initiatives.

A Fresh New Look

When Prostate Cancer UK rebranded in 2023, we were there to ensure their digital platform reflected this fresh identity. Our updates included everything from typography and colours to aligning the site with new messaging, ensuring a seamless experience for users. With our deep understanding of the site’s infrastructure, we efficiently integrated these changes while maintaining the high performance and accessibility standards that had been achieved since the 2019 rebuild.
